Brief description or abstract:
HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING FOR CAREGIVERS Thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of Labor-OSHA, NMDCC is bringing a series of Health and Safety Training for Caregivers classes to New Mexico. The first in this series is scheduled for January 30-31, 2015 at HME Specialists in Albuquerque (Jan 30 from 2:00-5:30 pm; Jan 31 from 8:30-5:30 pm). These 10-hour Health and Safety Training for Caregivers courses are designed for caregivers serving persons who are elderly and those with disabilities. Content includes in-depth training on mobility and safe transfer of clients, prevention of bloodborne pathogens, the cycle of infection, and workers' responsibilities under OSHA law. Courses are taught by doctors, nurses and certified OSHA instructors. Full participation results in a Certificate of Completion and opportunity to sit for a nationally-recognized credential at a later date. Care recipients are encouraged to attend as guests to learn what their own caregiver should know.
