About the Early Childhood Providers Meeting

Mayor Gonzales and the Early Childhood Sub-Committee of the Mayor’s Children, Youth and Families Community Cabinet hosted a community convening of Early Childhood providers on May 15, 2015.

The represented Early Childhood Sub-Committee of the Mayor’s Cabinet members and the organizing team for the event included the following:

•City of Santa Fe Children, Youth and Families Division (Terrie Rodriguez and Chris Sanchez)
•Brindle Foundation (Kim Strauss, Director at Brindle Foundation)
•Thornburg Foundation (Allan Oliver, Executive Director and Michael Weinberg, Early Childhood Education Policy Officer)
•Santa Fe Community Foundation / Santa Fe Birth to Career Collaboration (Joohee Rand, Director of Strategic Initiatives)
•CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center (Kristin Carmichael, Director of Community Health)
•CYFD (Selestte Sanchez, Home Visiting Supervisor and Rhonda Montoya)
•Santa Fe County (Rachel O’Connor, Director of Community Services)
•Contractor / Facilitator - Michele Lis

Forty-two community partners participated in the community convening.   Following the welcome and Mayor’s remarks, and the presentation of Early Childhood Outcomes and Indicators, the meeting broke into small group discussions on each indicator to gather input from community providers on the following questions:

1)Why is this an issue in our community?
2)What would it take to make this better? Include a)gaps in policy and systems and b) gaps at service level.
3)Who are our partners and what is working well?
4)Do you have any other comments you’d like to make?  What are the low-cost, no-cost, quick win ideas that we could accomplish together?  Anything missing from the outcomes & indicators?  What do we not know?

Following pages provide the overview of the Early Childhood Outcomes and Indicators and the synthesis and recommendations from the provider’s inputs during the meeting.  The ideas generated during break out sessions about each indicator in the small group discussions are provided in the Appendix, along with a preliminary summary of where community partners are making change by indicator.
