Objective 2.1:   Increase health literacy relevant to African American  males

Work Plan

• Convene television, radio, hospital and community partners to develop an inventory of resources and set health messages for the  next 12 months for Black males
• Expand culturally competent educational  messaging
• Solicit variety of sponsorships for health campaigns
• Identify network and develop strategy for dissemination of materials

Performance Indicators:

• Number of participants from media and hospitals
• Number of new health literacy messages based upon research on effective messaging for Black males
• Establish target measures for African American  males visiting sample clinics/screenings who have seen/heard messaging

Objective 2.2: Develop a formal, city wide plan of action for enhancing access to primary health services for African American  males.

Work Plan

• Identify lead facilitator/recruiter or  sponsor
• Convene large health provider groups that represent current initiatives for a call to action
• Meet and document strategies over a 6 month period
• Select a  small group to finalize plan

Performance Indicators

• Number of primary health providers identified and convened
• Number of primary health providers continuing participation

Objective 2:3: Develop a formal, city wide plan of action for enhancing access to mental wellness and addiction recovery services for African American  males.

Work Plan

• Identify lead facilitator/ recruiter or sponsor
• Convene addiction recovery provider groups that represent current initiatives ( Baton Rouge Area Alcohol and Drug Center, Behavioral Health Collaborative, Capital Area Human Services District, Louisiana Public Health Institute)
• Meet and document strategies over a 6 month period
• Select a small group to finalize the plan  

Performance Indicators

• Number of participating mental wellness service providers identified and convened
• Number of mental wellness service providers continuing participation
• Number of participating addiction recovery service providers identified and convened
• Number of addiction recovery service providers continuing participation
