The Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless of Brevard Co., Inc. has been in operation since 1989 at which time the Internal Revenue Service granted the corporation a status of non-profit under section 501 (c) (3) of the code. In 2001, the agency became a certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). The Coalition currently leases, owns, and/or maintains 110 properties throughout Brevard County. The properties are located in Titusville (33), Melbourne (19), Palm Bay (8), and Cocoa (50). The mission of the agency encompasses addressing the needs of homeless and hungry individuals and families in Brevard County. The program services provided to address these needs include 1) transitional housing units for homeless individuals and families, 2) comprehensive support services to aid individuals transitioning into an independent and self supporting environment, and 3) follow-up review to insure continuing independence is sustainable. The focus of the WIN program is to care for those individuals, families, and children who are in crisis, to provide a safe, secure harbor, and to offer a helping hand “up.” Emphasis is placed on extending dignity, compassion, and understanding in a culturally and racially sensitive environment. In addition to several minor programs, the agency has three major components. The programs consist of transitional housing, permanent units for disabled persons (WIN Housing), and homes for veterans (WIN/VET). Many of our units are structured to meet the needs of families with children.
The mission of the agency is to address the needs of the homeless in Brevard County. The mission will be accomplished by assisting individuals, families, veterans, and children who are in crisis by providing a secure harbor, and a helping hand. Emphasis is placed on dignity, compassion, and understanding of clients in a culturally and racially sensitive environment.
